ARQUITECTURA Y URBANISMO "CAPITULO INTERNACIONAL"

CATEGORIES
Six categories of Participation are established:
1. Architectural Design
Architectural projects constructed in the last five years that have not participated in other editions of
Architecture and Urbanism Biennials of Costa Rica. This category includes all constructed architectural
projects not included in the other categories of this invitation, without limit of scale.
2. Territorial organization projects and Urban Design Projects
This category includes the general of partial design works for public and private entities that imply propossals
of territorial and city planning organization and urban design propossals, either in process of execution or
already built.
3. Patrimonial projects
Projects of patrimonial intervention in buildings considered part of the patrimony constructed under any of the
urban architectural typologies. The projects can refer to rehabilitation of buildings, changes in use and
revaluation of space, conservation, restoration and others carried out.
4. Social interest housing projects
Residential projects built as independent units of less than 80 square meters, or multiple solutions as contribution
in the development of social housing. The city planning contribution of hte groups and the design and constructive
concretion of the topic are considered important.
5. Landscape Architecture
Invention projects in the natural contour that contemplates the landscaping design.
6. Investigation
This category gathers all publications published or unedited concerning any Theory, Investigation and Critic work,
allusive to Architecture, City Planning or hte Field of Construction in general referred to historical, current
or future circumstances.

PARTICIPATION FEES
Nationals: US$30.00 (per project)
Foreigners: US$75.00 (per project)
The fees does not include shipping costs.

INSTRUCTIONS OF PRESENTATION OF THE WORKS
Information of the boards
a) Each project must contain as minimum: floor(s), layout, two elevations, two cross sections,
isometric or perspective. Graphics support elements may be included to make the design comprehensible.
b) The sending of slides is suggested.
c) The presentation of works or projects must include the complete relationship of the professional(s)
authors of the project. Name and last name, nationality, and a name of the work, city and location. The presentation
of a conceptual sythesis to sustain the design is required on the first page.
d) The projects in the theory category must be presented in representative and readable graphical form, attach
an executive summary of five pages maximum and present the corresponding written work.
e) Each text accompanying your project must be written in Spanish, for the purpose of facilitating the
reading to the members of the jury and the general public in firs instance, and for allowing a better understanding
and transmission of thought of the exhibitors.
FORMATS OF THE BOARDS
a) Each participant shall only present four boards 80cm X 60cm in rigid board presentation on which he/she
will work in free form according to the criteria and creativity of each of the participants
b) All material used without limitation of technique must be of very good quality, incomplete works or works
different from the format established will not be accepted. Worn out, torn, dirty or stained material will not
be exhibited. The Organizing Commission of the V Bienal reserves the right to exclude any project considered of poor
quality in presentation that would negativelly affect the exposition.

INFORMATION CENTER AND PRESENTATION OF WORKS
The material referred to theory works, projects and works, shall be handed in at the Costa Rican Architects
Association Office, located in:
Curridabat, San Jose Costa Rica.

Biennial Grand Prize US$20,000.00
Acknowledgments will be given for each category.

CALENDAR
Inscription for the participants to the contest: until September, 1st 2000
Delivery of works: September 14th, 2000 (deadline)
Start of Biennial / Exposition and prizing: October 2nd - 6th, 2000
